    Cyber and Information Security (C&IS) Division - Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA)

    Ministry of Home Affairs(MHA) had constituted an Expert Group comprising of the official/academicians from Ministry of Home Affairs, Indian Institute of Technology(IITs), Indian Institute of Science(IISc) and IT experts to study the gaps and challenges, prepare a roadmap for effectively taking of Cyber Crime in the country and give suitable recommendations to take effective measures to prevent crime against women.

    What is Cyber Security?

    1. Cyber security protects the data and integrity of computing assets belonging to any organization’s network. Its purpose is to defend those assets against all threat actors throughout the entire life cycle of a cyber attack.
    2. According to the survey, 27 per cent of women have experienced physical violence since the age 15 in India. This experience of physical violence among women is more common in rural areas than among women in urban areas.
    3. Bengaluru registered the most number of cybercrime cases in 2018.
    4. Uttar Pradesh tops the list on crimes against women in 2016

    Cyber Harassment

    Cyber harassment can take many forms, Few includes :

    1. Unwanted sexually explicit emails, text (or online) messages;
    2. Ooffensive advances on social networking websites or internet chat rooms;
    3. Threats of physical and/or sexual violence by email, text (or online) messages;
    4. Hate speech, insults, threatens or targets an individual based on her identity (gender) and other traits (such as sexual orientation or disability).

    Why is this so important?

    According to Cyber security Ventures, there will be up to 3.5 million job openings by 2021. Meanwhile, women make up only 20% of the cyber security workforce and there's still a lot of opportunity to be seized in cyber security careers.

    Where to lodge a Complaint?

    A person of offence can make a complaint to the Cyber Crime Investigation Cell. The Cyber Crime Investigation Cell is a branch of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). Cyber Crime Investigation Cells have opened up in many cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Chandigarh, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Tamil-Nadu, Gurgaon, Pune, Madhya-Pradesh, Lucknow, etc.

    Conclusion :

    At the end it was concluded that though not all people are victims to cyber crimes.Crimes don’t always occur behind the computer , hackers could even live 3 continents away from its victim. With technologyincresing, criminals don’t have to rob banks, their weapons are not guns anymore so they alerted the participants to be more alert in future. The program received good response and audience attended with full attention.
